A root canal is always necessary if the dental caries reaches the dental nerve in the interior of the tooth and the tooth root (root inflammation). In order to prevent the further spread of caries bacteria into the tooth root and beyond the jaw bone, the infected tissue is carefully removed from the tooth root. This is done with delicate nickel-titanium instruments under local anesthesia, in order for the root canal procedure to be completely painless.
Bacteria is especially effectively removed by laser light. X-rays with our digital x-ray device accompany the root canal procedure. After this the tooth root is closed up by the thermoplastic root filling. In addition to a thorough root canal treatment, the quality of the new filling or crown, which closes the tooth to the oral cavity, is critical to the long-term success.
